United Nations Foundation (UNF)

Mr. Ted Turner, founder of CNN, chose the United Nations as the vehicle for his global gift of 1 billion US Dollars, because in his opinion the UN alone provides the machinery to help find solutions to international challenges, and to deal with pressing concerns facing people everywhere. The UN Foundation and its activities support the goals and objectives of the UN, recognizing the vital role the UN will continue to play in addressing global issues. 

The United Nations Foundation seeks to support the goals and objectives of the United Nations and its Charter in order to promote a more peaceful, prosperous, and just world - with special emphasis on the UN's work, especially on behalf of economic, social, environmental and humanitarian causes. The UNF has identified within the work of the United Nations four areas of special interest: health for children; the environment, peace, security and human rights; and women and population.
