Government of Suriname

The Government of Suriname has a long-standing commitment to nature preservation and biodiversity conservation.

The government is signatory to a number of international conventions addressing various environmental issues, including the protection of wetlands, endangered species, biodiversity, and climate change. The Ministry of Natural Resources has overall responsibility for the management of the country's natural resources. Within this ministry, the Nature Conservation Division of the Suriname Forest Service (LBB) is the lead government agency charged with biodiversity conservation. The LBB works in conjunction with the President's Environmental Council and the Suriname Foundation for Nature Protection (STINASU), a government-chartered organization that works to protect Suriname's biological diversity.
